What Obama administration means for the environment
To say that our newly elected president Barack Obama is environmentally conscious is an understatement. His platform revolved around creating green jobs, becoming energy independent as well as energy efficient. On Barack Obama's official website I found some key goals that our new president is planning to achieve. Planned investment of over $150 billion over ten years in green industry, ensure that over 10% of our electricity comes from renewable sources and implement a infrastructure-wide reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by the year 2050 (barackobama.com).
These are very bold goals and the current spurt of action is unbelievably fast. Are these projects sustainable? That is up to the people approving these projects. How long will a project need initial funding? When will it be making its own money? These are the questions that need to be asked. Rumor has it that Obama is actively hiring and interviewing companies that are ready to roll in order to create new jobs within 2 months from now. The Obama administration is cutting the red tape and is rushing to create green jobs – fast. I really hope these jobs will be more or less market driven.
